Wind, Biomass and Heat Pumps
Ian Crombie, Woodhall Farm of Over Rankeilour Farms, near Cupar, Fife, KY15 4NA
This open day consisted of a visit to a 150kW biomass boiler, a 225kW wind turbine and a 24kW heat pump. The 150kW biomass boiler is a Herz boiler which provides heat to the farm house, office and two properties for seasonal workers. The 225KW wind turbine is an A27 ACSA turbine and has been operational for over a year. The export capacity on this turbine is limited to 150kW due to grid network constraints, excess electricity is used on the farm to dry woodchip via a bespoke drying system which will also be on display. As part of the open day, specific focus was given to the grid connection constraints on the wind project, the SSE (SHEPD) design requirements and the novel solution of using excess electricity on the farm in order not to breach the SSE (SHEPD) export constraints.
